We have been living in Germany for three months now and it still doesn’t seem real. After being in a hotel for a few weeks, we found a house that we LOVE. It has a fenced in backyard for Stella (Which was A MUST), 3 bedrooms/3 bathrooms & just minutes from the cutest little German town. The time difference was rough for the first week. I had to keep reminding myself that 9:00am in Germany was 2:00 am in Chicago & I couldn’t make my daily call to my Mom when I woke up. The culture shock was and still IS real. The food is very different, the road signs still don’t make sense, GoogleTranslate is my new best friend & things aren’t as convenient as they were in the states. Getting WiFi installed took 5 weeks & when the technician left, I couldn’t even tell you what our password was because he didn’t speak English.
Aside from all the challenges, we are having the time of our lives. It has been 3 months since the BIG move and we have traveled almost every week. We’ve been on road trips through France, captured the beautiful mountains in Switzerland, drank beer at Oktoberfest, walked through the fairytale streets of Rothenburg ob Der Tauber, visited the Czech Republic, toured our first castle, devoured enough schnitzel to feed an army, browsed the farmers markets of Nuremberg, snowboarded in Austria, drank tea in London, & walked the ancient walls of Regensburg.
The world is at our fingertips. Literally. Over the next 3 years, we plan to overeat, under sleep & explore every inch of Europe. It’s going to be a hell of a ride, STAY TUNED!
